Research, development and special tasks

Research and development are high priorities at Hansa-Nord-Labor. For many years we have been handling practice-oriented R&D tasks for private and public clients. Asphalt and its performance is the primary focus of our research.

We use various methods for testing asphalt and investigating the following aspects:

We have discovered that the particular type of bitumen used has an important influence on the performance of asphalt. The Bundesministerium für Verkehr, Bau und Wohnungswesen (German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Housing) awarded Hansa-Nord-Labor a research contract, the content of which was exactly this interaction (“Optimisation of the empirical parameters for implementing and evaluating performance-oriented bitumen tests with the help of a dynamic shear rheometer” ; FE 07.196/2001/BGB).

Building on these new findings, Hansa-Nord-Labor completed another research contract (“The influence of quality differences of polymer-modified bituminous binding agents of the same variety on the mechanical behaviour of asphalt, Part 1: Deformation behaviour under heat” ; FE 07.225/2008/BGB), and published the results in 2011.

Since October 2010, Hansa-Nord-Labor GmbH has been commissioned to complete another part of the aforementioned research project (low-temperature performance, fatigue behavior and stiffness behavior ).

Our areas of research include the advancement of asphalt construction methods, such as our HAKO ® asphalt and the application of RC adhesive and binding substances.

Employees and management of Hansa-Nord-Labor participate in various expert panels of the Forschungsgesellschaft für Straßen- und Verkehrswesen (German Road and Transportation Research Association) and the Deutscher Asphaltverband (German Asphalt Pavement Association). We contribute to making scientific research more practice-oriented and precise, and the scientific results are reflected in our practice-oriented R&D projects. Our clients greatly benefit from this exchange between theory and practice.
